My Boxes and Other Projects

work by

Maggie Millard

The BOXES are made using hand and machine embroidery on a variety of fabrics including silk paper, dyed scrim and linen on bases of heavy card, plastic or metal grid. The FIGURES are made using a wire base bound with fabric strips and decorated with ribbons, beads etc. The PICTURES are a mix of techniques including wet felting, hand and machine embroidery, silk ribbon embroidery and raised work. The FAIRY SHOES use an Annette Emms pattern and are great fun to make as every pair can be totally different. The BAGS are made using a variety of techniques including hand dyed fabrics, weaving, hand and machine embroidery and fabric collage. The work on show here has been made over several years for various exhibitions, for presents and for myself.

This box is made using hand dyed scrim on board. The sides are decorated with hand embroidery inside and out combined with handmade paper, silk paper and machine embroidery on dissolvable film. The magic tree is formed from twisted wire and beads. The leaves are made using machine embroidery on net and dissolvable film. The door and lid both open to reveal the secret garden inside.
